It binds to the transmembrane of the subunit gp41 of the AIDS virus surface protein gp160and blocks the fusion of virus and target cell membranes and prevents the virus from entering the target cell. A peptide was produced in ton quantities with solid phase methodology - a huge challenge for the manufacturer and for all his suppliers of starting raw materials.
