Back to Pharmacology: Stem Cells & Primary Cells in Drug Discovery SBS Symposium

November 7-8, 2007
Anaheim Marriott Hotel,
Anaheim, California USA

The Society for Biomolecular Sciences presents a two-day technical event featuring presentations, exhibits, posters, and a networking reception. This meeting is geared to provide an overview of the use of both primary cells and stem cells in high-throughput screening and the drug-discovery process.

Special focus will center on a networking reception and meal functions planned to encourage strategy sharing and solution exploring in a smaller, more personal setting. The usual high-trafficked area of scientific posters will share novel approaches to industry challenges. And an SBS event would not be complete without an exciting exhibit hall (limited to only 30 life science innovators).

Presentation topics will include such areas as: the influence of cell phenotype on pharmacology; practicalities of using primary and stem cells for high-throughput screening; comparing primary cells and engineered cells as tools for ADMET; the use of stem cells for target validation; and reconstituted multi-cellular in vitro systems.

  • 3-D Co-culturing of Multiple Primary Cells for Drug Discovery, Diagnostics & Devices
  • Human Embryonic Stem Cells - Applications for Drug Discovery & Medical Treatment
  • Functional Tissue Engineering for Musculoskeletal Tissue Repair Using
  • Autogenous Mesenchymal Stem Cells
  • Rewiring GPCR Signaling in Stem Cells & Mice - Dissection, Design & Construction
  • Chemical and Functional Genomic Approaches Toward Regenerative Medicine
  • Heterotrimeric G proteins - How Your Cell Type Can Make Difference in
  • GPCR Signaling
  • Using Primary Cells for HTS Follow-up in a Physiologically Relevant System
  • Human Primary Cell-Based In Vitro Experimental Systems for the Evaluation of Human Drug Safety
  • Applications of Stem Cells to Target Validation in Drug Development
  • Stem Cells: Applications & Opportunities in Modern Drug Discovery (Plenary)
  • Influence of Cell Phenotype on Pharmacology (Plenary)
  • Nuclear Receptor Activation: Comparison Between Primary Hepatocytes & Engineered Cell Lines
  • Embryonic Stem Cells: Systems for Drug Discovery & Development

Poster presentations are limited to only 20 on a first-come, first-served basis. One poster is allowed per registered attendee or exhibiting company, based on availability. Reserve a poster stand when you register online. Posters will be displayed throughout the meeting rooms and registration area, and attendees can view them during breaks and during exhibition hours. (NOTE: to have title and author listed in the final program, you must register before September 17, 2007 at noon, EST and reserve a place for your poster.

Society for Biomolecular Sciences Presents its 14th Annual Conference & Exhibition Enhancing Research Productivity: Quality Tools, Leads and Candidates

April 6-10, 2008
America’s Center St. Louis,
Missouri

SBS heads out to St. Louis, Missouri to set up its 14th Annual Conference & Exhibition, April 2008. St. Louis, considered the gateway to the west and situated near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, plays host to the thousands of industry professionals who come from around the world to learn and network with experts in the field. Expectation is high that the caliber and technical value experienced in the highly successful events on the west coast and recently in Canada will not be just duplicated but rather surpassed in St. Louis.

The SBS event, the premier scientific and showcase event in molecular discovery, offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the latest innovations, technologies, and research in the drug discovery sciences from all over the world

Session Topics

We will be accepting submissions in the following topic areas:

  • Disease Focus: Development of Small Molecule Anti-cancer Agents
  • Disease Focus: Novel Receptors for the Treatment of Inflammatory Diseases
  • Disease Focus: Discovery of Novel Approaches for CNS Disorders
  • Label-free Detection in HTS & Lead Validation
  • Phenotypic vs. Mechanistic Screening: Primary Cells & Stem Cells in Drug Discovery
