1997 a very interesting 36mer peptide sequence was found. It binds to the transmembrane of the subunit gp41 of the AIDS virus surface protein gp160and blocks the fusion of virus and target cell membranes and prevents the virus from entering the target cell.
A peptide was produced in ton quantities with solid phase methodology - a huge challenge for the manufacturer and for all his suppliers of starting raw materials.
The factories of all parties have been improved dramatically with the effect that all chemicals necessary for this project (Resins, Fmoc-Amino Acids, Activators like HBTU, HCTU and other reagents, DTT) are now produced in much larger scale and with superior quality.
Due to the dramatic increase in production all chemicals for peptide and solid phase organic chemistry are now produced at much lower costs. Lab scales for the researchers and bulk for large-scale production is now available for everybody at better quality than ever before, with significantly lower prices!
