The "International Conference on Science and Technology of Synthetic Metals 2012" (ICSM 2012), will be held July 8-13, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Downtown Atlanta, GA, USA. All conference activities — presentations, poster sessions, meals, etc. — will be taking place at the Hyatt, where affordable room rates will welcome both junior and senior participants. Thus, in the same spirit as a Gordon Research Conference, non-stop interactions which will be possible throughout the week! ICSM is the longest-running conference series in the field of conducting and semiconducting organic materials. It started in the mid-1970's with the advent of highly electrically conducting molecular crystals and conjugated polymers (hence, the original reference to synthetic metals!). It has now become a premiere venue for discussion of the latest developments in the areas of organic electronics and photonics, from synthesis to characterization, computational modeling, device fabrication, and real-world applications. We are glad to bring ICSM back to the US for the first time since 1996 (the most recent editions took place in Montpellier, France, 1998; Bad Gastein, Austria, 2000; Shanghai, China, 2002; Wollongong, Australia, 2004; Dublin, Ireland, 2006; Porto de Galinhas, Brazil, 2008; and Kyoto, Japan, 2010). ICSM is expected to attract around a thousand participants from all over the world to discuss their new science and technology results in the area of organic/flexible electronics and photonics. Ten plenary speakers will present their latest research along with 96 invited speakers. The program will also include some 135 invited short talks and three poster sessions, which will provide participants the opportunity to highlight their recent work. TOPICS * (Bio) imaging, labeling, and sensing with organic chromophores/semiconductors * Conjugated polymer/oligomer/molecule synthesis * Electro-active and electrochromic organic materials and devices * Graphene / carbon nanotubes and their applications * Industrial development of organic devices * Interfacial science in organic devices * Organic electronics and photonics * Organic materials and devices for OLEDs and solid-state lighting applications * Organic materials and devices for transistor applications * Organic nonlinear optical chromophores, materials, and devices * Organic photovoltaic materials and devices * Organic semiconductor, conductor, and superconductor materials * Organic-based magnetic materials * Plastic / flexible electronics * Theory / modeling of organic semiconductors, conductors, and superconductors
