The RZPD Deutsches Ressourcenzentrum für Genomforschung GmbH (German Resource Center for Genome Research) has announced that it is the first institution worldwide to provide a service for the compilation of protein expression profiles by means of dedicated antibody chips. These biochips enable insights into the progression of diseases, for example cancer or cardiovascular diseases, by direct comparison of protein expression in healthy tissue with that in diseased tissue. Alongside diagnostic applications the chips open up opportunities to identify proteins relevant to cell development, to carry out toxicological studies. PR 6/13/04

Cell Signaling Technology has entered into an agreement with AstraZeneca to perform a pilot study profiling select AZ compounds with CST’s Global Phospho-Signature™ technology to discover novel, informative biomarkers of protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) target inhibition. CST’s Global Phospho-Signature (GPS™) phospho-proteomics technology is a patent-pending methodology combining immunoaffinity purification and mass spectroscopy to determine cellular PTK phosphorylation profiles (TKSignatures™). CST-PR 6/12/04

Iconix Pharmaceuticals has announced that AstraZeneca has selected Iconix to provide advanced chemogenomic profiling and analytical services for a specific AstraZeneca Cancer drug discovery program, using Iconixs reference database and predictive biomarkers. Under the agreement, AstraZeneca will apply Iconixs chemogenomics platform to found in specific drug programs. AstraZeneca is also seeking to identify genomic biomarkers that can be used as counterscreens in short-term studies. Iconix-PR 6/2/04

Phylonix has recently received a Phase II Small Business Innovation Grant (SBIR) from the National Cancer Institute to develop zebrafish apoptosis assays for drug screening. The amount of the award is $993,463. "Apoptotic cells in live, transparent zebrafish can be visualized by acridine orange staining without complicated processing. Pylonix-PR 6/2/04
