30.09.2003 September 2003 News Archive

9/29/03 - Velocity11
Velocity11 has launched the high-throughput BenchCel® Microplate Handling System. The BenchCel utilizes a high-speed shuttle to transfer microplates between its integrated storage racks and two peripheral instruments, allowing maximum processing capacity of up to 350 microplates.

9/26/03 - NextGen Sciences
Launched two core technologies with the potential to revolutionise protein research and impact the pharmaceutical industry by improving protein analysis and accelerating drug discover. The world’s first fully automated 2-dimensional electrophoresis system, the a2DETM. does not require user supervision or intervention. The second is the expressionfactoryÔ, which is a platform for systematic, automated and high throughput protein expression and purification.

9/23/03 - CyBio
Introduced the CyBi™-Cellight for integrated cell-based screening. This modular liquid handling and detection platform provides a flexible system to address a range of applications in drug discovery. The system can be configured to meet requirements used in Assay development, Primary Screening, Secondary Screening, and ADME/Tox applications.

9/23/03 - PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences
Announced that its flagship EnVision™ plate reader, a detection solution for all major application areas,  now provides AlphaScreen™ technology, a sensitive, non-radioactive homogeneous assay technology. The combination of luminescence homogeneous assay technology with a high capacity HTS plate reader aims to offers excellent results, versatility and ease-of-use with high sensitivity and a wide, dynamic range.

9/22/03 - Automation Partnership
Has released Cello™, its system that automates mammalian cell culture in micro-well plates and enables selection of optimal clones and cell lines. Cello™ can culture multiple cell lines in parallel, throughout all stages of their life cycle, from seeding through expansion and sub-cloning. Applications include: generation and selection of new stable cell lines, including hybridoma cells; culture of cells (e.g. Caco2) in filter plates for transport assays permeability studies; cells for RNAi and viral resistance studies and Stem cells for knock-out and transgenic animals.

9/18/03 - Graffinity Pharmaceuticals / Genentech
Announced a long-term research and development collaboration for the identification and development of novel small-molecule therapeutics. Under the collaboration, Genentech will provide Graffinity with a number of drug targets. Graffinity will deliver lead structures for the targets, utilizing its RAISE® (Rapid Affinity Informed Structure Evolution) technology.

9/17/03 - Bio-Tek and TekCel
Will co-market the TekBench™ liquid handling platform with the ELx405™ Microplate Washer, µFill™ Reagent Dispenser and PowerWave™ HT Microplate Spectrophotometer, to enable the companies to offer a fully automated ELISA assay solution.

9/15/03 - Odyssey Thera and Dharmacon
Have entered into a research collaboration to study the effects of siRNA-induced gene silencing on cellular signaling pathways. The collaboration will combine Dharmacon's SMART™ technologies for guaranteed gene silencing and Odyssey Thera's Protein-fragment Complementation Assay (PCA) process in the quantification and analysis of signaling events within the context of living human cells.

9/12/03 - Atto Bioscience
Launched  ACT:One™, a live-cell technology for GPCR drug discovery. The technology allows sensitive monitoring of intracellular cAMP levels by measuring ion flow across the cell membrane using Atto’s homogeneous-assay membrane potential dye or calcium indicators such as Fura-2 or Fluo-4.

9/10/03 - Tripos
Announced release of its industry-leading SYBYL® suite of applications on industry-standard HP Integrity servers and Intel Itanium-based workstations running the HP-UX operating system. Tripos' computational chemistry software products are now available on three platforms: Linux, SGI and HP's Itanium-based systems running HP-UX.

9/10/03 - Evotec OAI and DeveloGen
Evotec OAI and DeveloGen have entered into a joint drug discovery and development partnership in the field of obesity and diabetes. The partnership combines DeveloGen's pipeline of over 200 primary targets and 30 validated targets and its know-how in pharmacology, metabolic diseases, and assay development with Evotec OAI's experience in assay development and screening through medicinal chemistry and drug manufacture.

9/8/03 - Tripos
Released SYBYL® 6.9.1/UNITY® 4.4.1, the latest version of its computational chemistry platform for drug design and discovery,  that features the addition of two scientific technologies, FUGUE™ and FlexX-Pharm™. FUGUE is designed to assist in recognizing distant homologues by sequence-structure comparison. FlexX-Pharm adds functionality to FlexX™, enabling ligand-docking calculations to be guided through interaction.

9/4/03 - Inpharmatica
Announced a two-year agreement with British Biotech to provide ADME services in connection with its drug discovery activities. Under the agreement, Inpharmatica's ADME team will provide assays, analysis and interpretation of ADME data for a number of different project teams at British Biotech.

9/3/03 - Asinex
Asinex has entered into a drug discovery collaboration with F2G Ltd to carry out screening against a variety of targets and whole cell screens using ASINEX’s compounds. ASINEX will provide F2G with selected compounds from within their library and allow F2G to screen and develop these compounds as anti-fungal drugs. Screening will be conducted at F2G’s laboratory in Manchester, UK.

9/2/03 - Tecan
Launched a new 384-channel pipetting head with liquid displacement technology that allows a broad range of high precision volume dispensing, even at low volumes. The 384-channel pipetting head allows fast, accurate and reliable sample dispensing of volumes from 200nl to 50µl with a new efficient washing system. The lower compressibility of liquid compared to air offers significant improvements in pipetting precision
